The automated assembly line is a production equipment specializing in various assembly and testing processes at the later stage of product manufacturing. The objects of the automated assembly line include various parts and components that make up the product, and the final finished product or semi-finished product, which is suitable for products with mature product design, huge market demand, many assembly processes and long-term production.

The automated assembly line has the superiority of stable performance, less labor required, high production efficiency, significantly reduced manufacturing cost of single product, and small occupied space. In the process of designing the overall scheme of the automated assembly line, the process design of the automated line is the most important work, and the main contents of the process design are as follows.

(1) Determine the reasonable sequence of processes
The sequence of processes should meet the order of the manufacturing process of the automated production line, and should also be analyzed and optimized from the perspective of reducing the manufacturing difficulty and cost of the production line equipment and simplifying the design and manufacturing of the production line.
(2) Reasonable allocation and optimization of the process content of each special machine
The process content assigned to each special machine should be reasonable, without making the function of a special machine too complicated, which may make the beat time of the special machine too long, and may also make its structure too complicated, reducing the reliability and maintainability of the equipment, which will lead to the shutdown of the whole production line in case of failure.
(3) Analysis and optimization of the workpiece’s attitude direction in the whole production line
The workpieces are conveyed on the conveyor line in a determined attitude direction, and similarly, the workpieces are gripped, operated, and returned to the conveyor line in a determined attitude direction during the operation of the special machines. Because of the different process contents of each machine, the workpieces are gripped and operated in different postures, which means that the posture of the workpieces has to be changed frequently. When designing the process, it is necessary to consider the workpiece dividing, reversing and stopping mechanisms in the production line as a whole, so that the number and types of these mechanisms can be minimized as much as possible and the production line design and manufacture can be simplified.
(4) Consider the balance of the beat
Similar to the beat principle of the manual assembly line, it is necessary to make the beat time of each special machine as balanced as possible, so as to give full play to the benefits of the overall production line and avoid the waste of some special machines.
(5) Improve the reliability of the whole production line
From the perspective of process time analysis and optimization, it is necessary not only to simplify the structure of the special machines and improve their reliability, but also to make the whole production line simple in structure, with fewer downtimes and quicker maintenance, so as to improve the reliability of the overall production line.
The quality and level of the process design of the automatic motor assembly line directly determines the complexity, reliability, overall production efficiency, production cost and other comprehensive performance of each machine in the line.
